Miami is painted with art
The fair that every year seeks to celebrate and give a space to modern and contemporary art.
If art is your thing, you have surely heard about Art Basel, and if not, you have surely seen a banana taped to a wall that sold for no less than US$120,000, and well, this event took place precisely within the framework of one of the editions of Art Basel. Today we want to tell you a bit more about this fair that every year seeks to celebrate and give space to modern and contemporary art from around the world. The fair was created in 1970 by a group of Swiss gallery owners named Ernst Beyeler, Trudl Bruckner, and Balz Hilt, and in its first edition, it received over 16,000 visitors who had the opportunity to witness 90 galleries, 30 publishers from around 10 countries. Nowadays, the fair has three major events in the year; Art Basel which is held in Switzerland in the month of June, Art Basel Miami Beach held every December, and Art Basel Hong Kong taking place in the months of March. This year, the fair closes its agenda with a golden key at its Miami Beach 2021 edition, an edition that stood out for its focus on emerging artists, a new vision focused on the market, new talents, and the role of globalization in the art market. It is important to highlight that this new vision brought forth by the new director Marc Spiegler and his team not only represents a new opportunity for diversity to express itself in all its splendor but also allows many artists from nationalities that had never had the opportunity to exhibit at an international fair like this, as well as attracting new young investors willing to bet on new proposals.
