About your work

Her constant pursuit is color.

She has been exploring the interconnection between color, light, what unites us as humanity and oil as a perpetually alive material, a metaphor for perpetuity that is kneaded and stretched for five years.

She perceives colors as more than simple pigments on a canvas; as bearers of knowledge. Through them, the very essence of her environment is revealed, of the elements that make up the universe; a truth that emanates from the light and redefines her own ways of perceiving it. However, this spectrum of light is vast and complex, and the human eye can only perceive a fraction of it.

It is in the subtlety, in what is said between the lines, in the nuances and the tonalities, where she invites the viewer to discover the depth and richness of the visual experience. From there her work begins: she captures not only forms, but also emotions, intentions and textures that enter into dialogue with the observer, an interlocutor who complements the work and plays with abstractions to find meanings and realities hidden from plain sight.

Maria Paula is excited to continue taking her work to a sculptural level where technology allows her to complement and expand the possibilities of her creative development.

Biography

For more than 15 years, I felt a deep calling for art, in which I visualized myself painting and exhibiting; creating works crossed by my narratives that not only captivated those who admired them, but also carried powerful messages of transformation. I entered a gallery, an exhibition, a museum and my heart beat and got lost in a dream, at that time, impossible to reach. For a long time, I silenced that calling because I didn't know where to start.

I studied Literature in Bogotá and did a master's in Media, Literature and Culture, in Germany, a country where I lived for 8 years. In 2019, after visiting the Guayasamín museum house in Quito, I decided to launch myself and was born again: I started, impulsively and intuitively, without fear, my career as an artist getting to know oil and its textures. Since then, I am happier and have not stopped: I have produced more than 600 physical works, some of which have reached countries such as the United States, Canada, Ghana and several in Europe and Latin America, and I have had the fortune to exhibit in Milan, Washington, Bogotá and Bucaramanga.
