About your last job
"Breathe, even if you don't notice it” (2024) invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the artistic and spiritual evolution of the work of the artist Margarita Cancino, from the year 2021 to the present, and in her constant interest in capturing spirituality and the beyond.
How to capture these emotions through art?
In this journey, the spiral will be the central symbol to which the artist resorts to connect with her representation of the eternal cycle of life. Inspired by Western indigenous philosophy, it invites the viewer to reflect that individual and collective knowledge can begin at any point of the spiral and will never have an end, since the present and the past are permanently connected.
Just like life and death.
With this, Margarita reminds us that we are constantly growing, always moving between death and life. And thus, she invites us to reflect on our origins and our destiny. Through her paintings and sculptures, visitors will witness the process of transformation and connection with the spiritual that the artist has experienced over time.
By understanding painting as a ritual that connects people beyond their senses, and by understanding the artist's process, one can appreciate how the series she has worked on in painting and then in sculpture intertwine.
The journey begins with the sculptures, which resemble deities or figures represented on an altar, speaking of the colors of life and the primordial connection with existence. Then, we immerse ourselves in the colors of the soul and the cycles of existence, exploring the depths of our own human essence. Finally, we arrive at the "Photopsies", images that are revealed at the end of life, capturing the tones of the skin at the moment of death. These works confront the public with the reality of mortality, but also remind them of the ephemeral beauty of existence.
"Breathe, even if you don't notice it" transcends the concept of a simple art exhibition; it is an introspective journey that invites the viewer to reflect on their own spiritual trajectory and their relationship with the surrounding world. In each work, in each stroke, in each spiral, the promise of growth and transformation is found.
